Last fall, the Morrisville Rotary gave the Lanpher Memorial Library a donation to go toward a literacy project.
We decided to use the funds to start us off with some Literacy Kits that can be checked out of the Library and used with children and families in their homes. The first kit has 2 books Good Morning Yoga and Good Night Yoga, both written by Maiam Gates and illustrated by Sarah Jane Hinder. The kit also comes with "Yoga Pretzels", a deck of cards, each with a fun yoga activity for kids and grownups to share. The donation from the Morrisville Rotary not only paid for the the cost of the first kit, but we also purchased a set of bags that we can use for future Literacy Kits. Please stop by and check out the Yoga Kit, and look for more fun kits of all sorts coming soon.... Thank you Morrisville Rotary! The Vermont Certified Public Managers program (VCPM) through the State of Vermont Center for Achievement in Public Service (CAPS) is conducting a survey about Vermont Libraries for their research project.
This survey will assist the Vermont Department of Libraries to see how Libraries are perceived in their communities. They want your honest opinions...positive, negative, or indifferent as they seek insight into viewpoints and awareness of library services to gauge the current views of the public. Please take a few moments to fill out this survey. Thanks! We're excited for a great 2020 here at the Lanpher Memorial Library! Here's a reminder of what a great year we had in 2019! On a hill o'er the valley Where the river runs down In the heart of the county Stands a quiet little town A tree-shaded hamlet Where friendly folk dwell where neighbors have time To visit a spell A quaint country village Kind of out of the way Some come to visit And some come to stay A town leveled by fire In nineteen and ten But as Lazarus arose So the town did again Money was scarce And resources thin But the town folk were stubborn They wouldn't give in Imagine the hardship Back then-- and the strife But united they brought Our fair town back to life From the rubble and ashes Up from the ground With a solid foundation They rebuilt the town Yea--with undaunted spirit The town again rose On a hill o'er the valley Where the big river flows. -Gordie Tallman
The Second Congregational Church of Hyde Park is placing commemorative bricks in their walkway. What a wonderful way to honor a person, a pet, a local organization, a special teacher, a group of friends, someone who has made a difference.... The bricks cost $100 each and you can order them online: https://polarengraving.com/secondcongregationalchurchofhydepark For $20 they also offer the opportunity to light the bell tower for a week in honor or in memory of someone. https://2congoucc.weebly.com/tower-light-memorial-page.html Proceeds from these gifts will go toward restoration of the Second Congregational Church's bell tower. This iconic Hyde Park landmark is in need of expensive repairs, so every brick and every light helps save the bell tower. Need other gift ideas? We have copies of Gordie Tallman's second book of poetry: "Backroads and Bygones, Volume II" for $15 each. For the Civil War buff: "Spunky Lamoille Boys in Blue Too" by Deanna French and Tom Ledoux are $20 (every bit goes to Lamoille Area Cancer Network) If you want a unique glance at Hyde Park History, look no further than "Moonlight Rambles". This compilation of 52 articles from the 1918 News & Citizen takes the reader on a one of a kind tour through Hyde Park. Put together by Francis Favreau, copies cost $10. Finally, the special story by an author who visited the Lanpher Memorial Library a few months ago for a talk: "Soar, Adam, Soar", by Rick Prashaw and Adam Prashaw. $20. Learn more about this book: https://www.rickprashaw.com/soar-adam-soar Note Cards from paintings of Hyde Park Village scenes by Diane Szlachetka, are sold in sets of 4 or 8 for $10 or $15. Proceeds go to the Friends of the Lanpher Memorial Library to further their support of the Lanpher Memorial Library. Gratitude is something that is highlighted during this time of year, and the Lanpher Memorial Library Staff and Trustees would like to Thank our community for supporting the library... those who attend our programs, story time, check out books, use computers, ask us for help... Those who support through tax dollars, private donations and through our fundraising efforts... and in more ways too. We are grateful to be part of a community who regularly tells us that we are meaningful in their lives, like these comments from the past month: "I like this library. It's like home. There are no stupid questions here." "Thanks for making me feel welcome. It's so nice." We like this Library too and we are thankful to be part of this community. |
