POSTPONED UNTIL MARCH 21ST! Alice's Ordinary People: Film and Discussion with Filmmaker

Because Craig Dudnick, filmmaker, is coming to Vermont from Boston, the weather is forcing us to postpone the Film showing and Discussion to: WEDNESDAY, MARCH 21ST 6:00.

On Wednesday, March 21st at 6:00, the Lanpher Memorial Library will welcome filmmaker Craig Dudnick to show his film "Alice's Ordinary People" and host a discussion afterward.

Alice's Ordinary People honors the selfless activists of the Chicago Freedom Movement.

Alice Tregay's Story: Ordinary people effecting extraordinary change for human rights and a woman who refused to stand still in the face of injustice.

WONDERful Wednesday! Vacation Week Movie

Wednesday, February 28th at 1:00 we will have a movie showing of WONDER, rated PG, starring Jacob Tremblay, Julia Roberts, Owen Wilson, Mandy Patinkin and Millie Davis.

Based on a book by R.J. Polaccio, Wonder is the story of a 10-year-old boy with a facial deformity attends school for the first time when he begins the fifth grade. With the support of his parents, he learns how to make friends and adjust to his new environment.

Popcorn will be served!

LML Partners with Healthy Lamoille Valley and Lamoille Co. Sheriff Dept. in Washington, D.C.

As a community partner, February 4th-9th, I got to chaperone a field trip of 16 middle and high school students from Lamoille Union, Peoples Academy and Stowe to the CADCA (Community Anti Drug Coalitions of America) Youth Leadership Summit in Washington D.C. sponsored by Healthy Lamoille Valley and Lamoille County Sheriff Department.

We spent a day sight seeing at Arlington Cemetery, The National Mall and Smithsonian Museums.

At the Conference the students met others from around the country and attended workshops pertaining to prevention and leadership.

On Wednesday, we attended a rally on Capitol Hill and then met with Congressman Welch, Senator Leahy and staff from Senator Sanders' office. In these meetings, the students shared their ideas and opinions about what issues they are seeing in their schools regarding drug and alcohol use, prevention and successes. The students spoke well and represented Vermont with pride.

During the last day of the Conference, our students got up on the National Stage and let the 2500 adult Conference attendees know about their commitment to prevention in their communities.

Finally....on the bus ride home, the students showed their patience and resilience when our bus needed repairs and we had to wait at a Travel Center in Maryland for 7 hours!!!!

Back in Vermont, the students will work in their schools and with Sheriff Marcoux to present what they have learned to the community. The Lanpher Memorial Library is proud to be a community partner with the schools and Healthy Lamoille Valley and Lamoille Co. Sheriff's Dept!
