Lamoille County Nature Center Junior Naturalist Programs
One Wednesday/Month* at 3:30
*This is a change in the schedule. Previously, the se programs were scheduled on Monday evenings. They are now on Wednesday afternoons at 3:30
April 12, 2023 Signs of Spring: Have you heard the peep of the spring peepers or the gobbling of tom turkeys? We will explore who is making all of that noise, who is emerging from dens, and who is coming home from winter vacation as spring begins in Vermont. We will try our hands at nest-building and act out the springtime serenade of frogs.
May 18, 2023 The Soil Under our Feet: Almost every object you eat, wear or use can be traced back to soil. In this lesson we will learn what soil is made of, get a feel for soil texture and explore the beauty and variety of soil colors to make our own soil masterpieces. You'll never want to treat soil like dirt again!

Students in grades 4-8 were invited to join our first ever Mystery Ingredient Challenge, based on the Food Network TV show "Chopped".
Student chefs picked up bags of 4 mystery ingredients and had a week to create a dish. They had to incorporate all 4 ingredients into an original recipe. They could, if they wanted to, supplement their recipes with items from home too.
The Mystery Ingredients were:
Goldfish Crackers, Granny Smith Apple, Carrot, Beef Stick
Check out the slide shows below to see the creative recipes our young "master chefs" came up with!
