On Saturday, January 18th, the Lanpher Library is pleased to present 2 amazing programs with Rob Mermin, founder of Circus Smirkus.
1st, at 1:00, Rob will lead a mime workshop for children ages 8ish to 12ish (some younger and older okay...) in celebration of this year's Red Clover book nominee:  "Monsieur Marceau", written by Vermont Author, Leda Schubart. (pictured left).  Please call the Library 888-4628 to join the list of children for this program, space may be limited.

At 3:00 on the same day, Saturday the 18th at 3:00, Rob will present "The Silent Language of the Soul: A Tribute to Marcel Marceau" for general audiences.  Rob was a student of the famous French mimes, Marcel Marceau and his teacher Etienne Decroux, and will present his memories of training with the masters.  Rob will demonstrate techniques of the art of pantomime, relate personal anecdotes, and show rare film clips of Marceau and Decroux performing and teaching. Decroux is known as the Father of Mime and Marceau remains an icon of 20th  century theater.  For those who remember seeing Marceau, who passed away in 2007, it will be a treat to rediscover the essence of the art form he made popular around the world, and which he called "the Silent Language of the Soul".  A copy of Leda Schubart's book will be given away at this program!

Have You Noticed?

12/11/2013

 The cold has settled

across the land,

the gardens frozen,

the bare trees stand

remembering weight of golden leaves.

Have you noticed?

Each breath is laced

with crystal cold,

and only crows

are left to hold

their court in empty monarchy.

Have you noticed?

Yet sunsets keep

the brightest shades

for these, the coldest of the months,

and even when the sunlight fades

the stars are clearest when our gaze

is woken by midwinter ice,

and if you pause in winter woods

and listen to the silence grow,

you find that silence has a sound--

of wind through cedars and weighty snow.

Have you noticed?

Join us on Monday, December 9th at 6:30 for a visit from local author, Jack Dennis as he reads excerpts from his memoir, "Jack in the Cracks".
"Something always seems to follow Jack: 'trouble'.  His constant questioning of everything leads to trips to the Wilson School office.  But three memorable teachers 'rescue' Jack's belief that he can do anything."
