Updates: Library Closed-  Stay Home & Stay Safe

3/25/2020

The Lanpher Library will no longer be able to provide curbside service (check out/pick up/delivery)  until further notice.

Governor Scott issued a "Stay Home and Stay Safe" order restricting all unnecessary activities outside of the home or place of residence.

While under normal circumstances we feel very strongly that the Library is a necessity,  in this situation we find ourselves best serving our community by not offering, what is described as a "non-essential errand".

If you have items checked out: PLEASE DO NOT RETURN LIBRARY MATERIALS UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE.
We have set our automatic renewals to June 1st, however if you receive overdue email notices, please disregard them.
We use special gloves and cleaning supplies to disinfect returns, and those are best diverted to departments that need to be open for our health and safety.

It is heartbreaking for us to cut off this service at a time when many need it.  "While our physical doors are closed, our hearts are open"

Please remember that we offer GMLC Overdrive downloadable audio and ebooks free for check out with your library card.  www.lanpherlibrary.org/gmlc-overdrive-ebooksaudiobooks.html

Go the page on the left to learn more.  If you can't remember your library card number, please email:  [email protected] and we will get back to you.  If you don't have a library card, please contact us at the email above and we will help set one up for you.

Library Material Pick Up Hours

3/18/2020

The Lanpher Memorial Library is offering pick up of library materials to our Library Patrons and home delivery to Hyde Park residents who cannot get to the Library.

Here's how it will work:
1.  Request a pickup/delivery---Call us 888-4628 or reserve items from our catalog lanpherlibrary.kohavt.org
You can reserve specific items, or ask us to make some selections for you.
2.  Pick-up hours are: MONDAYS 12-4, WEDNESDAYS 10-4, SATURDAYS 11-1.
Please specify the day you would like to pick up your items and try to be specific with the time you are coming.
3.  We will check your items out for you, place them in a bag and have them ready for you to pick up on the designated day.  You can knock on the Church St. door when you arrive and we will hand your delivery to you.
(We'll give a friendly wave through the glass, but not stop to chat!)
4.  If you want a delivery, please give us your address and date to deliver.  A Friend of the Lanpher Memorial Library volunteer will will come to your door, knock and leave the items at the front door.

PLEASE NOTE: We have a process for cleaning materials when they enter the Library.  Current data indicates that this is likely to kill the coronavirus, but the data is changing all of the time.  For an extra level of safety, you could wait up to 3 days before opening the library delivery.

ALL RETURNS MUST BE MADE THROUGH THE DROP SLOT AT THE CHURCH STREET ENTRANCE

IF YOU ARE EXPERIENCING SYMPTOMS:  FEVER, COUGH, AND DIFFICULTY BREATHING, PLEASE DO NOT RETURN LIBRARY MATERIALS UNTIL YOUR SYMPTOMS HAVE CLEARED.

Thank you all for helping us so that we may keep serving you.

Lanpher Library will be closed until further notice

3/15/2020

The Lanpher Memorial Library will be closed, effective immediately, until further notice.

This decision has not been made lightly, and we are feeling sad and heartbroken.

The last week has been full of uncertainty and stress for many of us as we try to make sense and keep up with the information about the spread of coronavirus.  At the Library, just a few days ago we struggled with the decision of whether to cancel library programs, and now, we are announcing a closure, that brings tears to my eyes to write about.

We strive to make decisions that meet the needs of our community, and right now, we are closing the Library to limit exposure of our beloved Library Partons to the virus, and data that indicates that preemptive closure of gathering places can be effective in reducing or slowing the spread of the virus.

Under normal circumstances, community gathering at the Lanpher Library would bring comfort and sense of normalcy to confusing times, and this is part of what makes the Lanpher Library a powerful community place, however, it is also because of this that we cannot stay open in this circumstance.

While we have been doing everything we can to increase our disinfection of surfaces at the library, we cannot guarantee that the virus will not spread through exposure at the library.  Because the library attracts school children, visitors from out of town, the aging populace in town, and almost everyone in between we are concerned that we are a likely place for the virus to spread from one group of people to another.

We have free 24/7 wifi, and it is accessible outside of our building.

Don't forget about GMLC Overdrive, downloadable audio and ebooks
www.lanpherlibrary.org/gmlc-overdrive-ebooksaudiobooks.html

Read the post below to learn about how you can still check out materials from the Library, keeping in mind that we cannot guarantee that we can fully make sure that they are virus free.

We will change our catalog settings so that you do not receive overdue notices, although you can still return materials in our drop box.  However, if you are experiencing symptoms of the virus, please do not return library materials until you are recovered.

Check this website often for any changes or updates, and please feel welcome to call us at any time 888-4628.

Lanpher Library Response to COVID-19

3/14/2020

Picture
The Lanpher Library has cancelled all of our programs until further notice, including Story Time, Book Discussions and programs that we have planned at other locations.

We would like to encourage our patrons to consider searching our catalog online and place holds on items (books, audios, DVDs) that you want to check out.  (Tutorial below)  Give us a call when you're ready to come pick up your materials, and we'll meet you at the door with your check outs!

If you prefer not to use the online catalog to search and place holds, give us a call!  802-888-4628.  We'll help you select items of interest and get them ready for you to pick up.

Additionally, our Friends of the Library group has offered a delivery to senior citizens in Hyde Park who might not be able to get out to check out their items.  We will make those arrangements here at the library, so if you are interested in delivery, please call us:  888-4628

If you are interested in these services, but don't have a Library Card with us, please call us 888-4628 and we can set up your library card by phone!

We would also like to assure you that we are setting up a system to disinfect all of our returned materials, which includes cleaning the outside of the material and not placing the item back into circulation for 24 hours.

Our patrons can return their items in the slot outside the door on Church Street.  If you need more time, you can renew online, or give us a call.

With the Hyde Park Partners in Education and the Friends of the LML, we've started a "Giving Tree" under the oak tree in front of the Library.  Understanding how difficult it might be for some people to get what they need...you can:  "Take If You Need and Give If You Can"

Please remember to wash your hands, don't touch your face, keep 6 feet of social distance, and get your information from reliable sources (like the links on the right of the home page on our website).

And of course, PLEASE be kind to each other.  It is difficult for us to feel that we are not able to be at full capacity for our community, but my professional motto of being Director of the Lanpher Memorial Library in Hyde Park, VT is to adapt our services to meet the needs of our community.  Right now we need to do this.
With Care and a Hurting Heart,
Amy Olsen
