FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
GENERAL QUESTIONS:
Q: What are your hours?
A: Monday 12-7 (8:00 in summer) Tues., Wed., Friday 10-5; Saturday 10-1. We're closed on Thursdays and Sundays.
Q: Are you closed on Holidays?
A: We're closed on New Year's Eve and New Year's Day. Memorial Day. Juneteenth (June 19th), Independence Day. Labor Day. Thanksgiving and the Friday after. Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. We also close for the day of the VT Library Association Conference.
Q: Do you accept book donations?
A: Sometimes. Our official policy is: "The Library accepts used paperbacks and hardback books at the discretion of the Library Director or Library Assistant.
1. Patrons need to make an appointment with the Library Director for donations of more than ten books.
2. Books approved by the Library will be placed in a designated area of the library for sale."
Q: When is your book sale?
A: We have an ongoing book sale in the basement of the Library. You must ask permission of Library Staff before going to the Book Sale. We also have our annual Book Sale on the Library Lawn on Hyde Park Home Day in September.
Q: Can I volunteer at the Lanpher Library?
A: We are not currently accepting any applications for volunteers, however, we will post here when we have job descriptions of positions that are open, however, we do have a wonderful Friends of the Library organization, and joining the Friends is a great way to volunteer for the Library!
Q: Can I become a member of the Friends of the Lanpher Memorial Library?
A: Yes. Anyone can join the Friends of the Lanpher Memorial Library. There are forms at the Library, or you can visit their website: http://friendsoflanphermemorial.com/membership/
ACCOUNT
Q: How do I get a library card?
A: You will need to visit the Lanpher Memorial Library and bring a piece of mail, or ID with your current address on it. We do not charge for out of town library cards. We'll collect your name, address, phone number and email (if you have one). You can get your card on the same day and begin using it immediately.
Q: How do I know when my books are due?
A: We don't automatically stamp the books with a due date, or print out a slip, but are always happy to do that if you ask. You can log in to your account and check your account online by visiting lanpherlibrary.kohavt.org
You can also call us: 802-888-4628 or email [email protected] with any questions about when your book is due.
Q: What is my user name and password?
A: Your user name is your 14 character library card number starting with 2VSRC. Your password is set up as your first and last name with no spaces. You can change your password after you log in to your account.
Q: I've lost my card! What do I do?
A: We can re-issue a card to you if you want to have one. We can also look your account up by using your name. If you need your 2VSRC number to access your account, or to borrow downloadable audio/ebooks, we can give you your number.
BORROWING
Q: How many items can I borrow at a time?
A: We like to say that you may borrow as many items as you can return in the allotted circulation period. We don't currently have a limit.
Q: How long can I keep the items I've borrowed?
A: Books and Audiobooks on CD circulate for 3 weeks.
- DVDs circulate for 1 week.
- Periodicals/Magazines circulate for 1 week.
- Downloadable audio and ebooks can circulate for 7 days, or 14 days. You can set your preferences in your account when you borrow these items.
Q: What if I'm late returning the items?
A: You will receive an email (if you have an email address attached to your account) 3 days before your items are due as a gentle reminder.
You'll receive another one when your items are overdue.
If you do not return your items, we will send a bill for the replacement.
We do not charge daily overdue fees. If you return your overdue items, we'll happily accept them!
Q: What happens if I lose a book, or it's damaged?
A: Please let us know. Our policy states that the borrower is responsible for lost or damaged items, but we get a discount on our materials from the companies we buy them from, so we will only charge you what we pay for the replacement, and we're willing to work with you if the fee is more than you can pay at one time.
Q: How do I look up a book?
A: Go to our catalog page: lanpherlibrary.kohavt.org You can search any item in our catalog from any online source.
Q: Can I reserve an item that is checked out?
A: You can! You can always call us and we can place the hold for you. 802-888-4628 Or you can place the hold yourself.
1) Login to your account from the catalog page lanpherlibrary.kohavt.org (Your Login # is your 14 digit Library Card starting with 3VSRC. Your password is set up as your first and last name with no spaces)
2) Search for the item you want to borrow.
3) Under the item description there are blue words that say: Place a hold Click the words.
4) Follow the instructions to place the hold.
-When the item is returned to the Library, you will get an automatic email letting you know that the item is in the Library and on hold for you.
Q: What if an item I want isn't in your catalog?
A: We can try to obtain the item through Inter Library Loan (ILL). You can fill out a slip and leave it with the Librarian at the circulation desk for processing.
Q: What is an Inter Library Loan?
A: We share resources with other Libraries in Vermont. An Inter Library Loan (ILL) is the process by which we borrow the items. ILLs are delivered once/week on Wednesdays, and can take a week or more to process and be delivered.
SERVICES
Q: Do you have computers available for public use?
A: We currently have 2 workstations available for public use within the Library building. We ask that patrons sign in to use the computers and limit the time on the computer to 30 minutes if there are others waiting to use the computers. If there is no wait, we do not limit computer time. However, when there is a patron waiting to use a computer, the person who has been using a computer the longest (if more than 30 minutes) will be asked to forfeit their use first.
Q: Do I need a Library Card to use a Library Computer?
A: No. Anyone can use the computers.
Q: Do you have WiFi? Do you need a password?
A: Yes we have free WiFi. No password is needed to access the free WiFi.
Our Wifi connections are either: Lanpher Public, or Community Room
We invite you to use whichever connection is stronger.
Q: Do you have a copier/printer?
A: Yes. We are not currently charging for copies/prints. We only have black and white.
Q: Do you have a scanner?
A: Yes. Our scanner is currently connected to only one of our computers. Please feel welcome to ask us for assistance.
Q: Can I send faxes from the Library?
A: We do not have a fax machine.
Q: Can I get a document notarized?
A: Yes. Our Library Director, Amy Olsen, is a Notary Public. There is no charge for this service. You might want to call in advance to make sure Amy is available to notarize. 802-888-4628
Q: Do you have a meeting room?
