PARENTS & CAREGIVERS  OF HYDE PARK ELEMENTARY SCHOOL STUDENTS:
Feeling excited, anxious, relieved or even nervous about school starting???

Come to the Lanpher Memorial Library on the first day of school, Monday, August 31st (right after drop off...) to celebrate and maybe even cry as your children start their first day of the new school year!

This is a great opportunity to meet and mingle with other parents, learn more about Hyde Park Partners in Education (P.I.E.) and even create a little something to give to your child to let them know you're thinking of them!

Refreshments will be served.  (and we'll have plenty of tissues too...)
Please share this information with your friends.  The more the merrier!

Cheers & Tears is sponsored by a partnership with Hyde Park Elementary School, P.I.E., Lanpher Memorial Library and Lamoille County Mental Health, with a grant from the Green Mountain Fund.

Children who set Summer Reading Goals at the Lanpher Memorial Library have until the beginning of school to complete their Summer Reading Goals (if they haven't already...!) but here are some figures to think about:

62 Children set Summer Reading Goals at the Lanpher Library.

For those who set goals by the number of books read:
980

For those who set goals by number of minutes:
25,965 minutes

A Summer Reading Story, by Amy Olsen
A man who uses the Lanpher Library told me that he and his wife care for their 6 and 3 year old grandchildren 3 days/week.  His 6 year old grandchild set a summer reading goal to read  a book to him every day.  So, every day after lunch, the two of them would sit together and the grandchild would read to him.  As the summer went on, he looked forward to their reading time.  He noticed patterns in the grandchild's reading, helped with learning new words and saw improvements in the reading abilities.  He said:  "I worry sometimes that my younger grandchildren won't have as vivid memories of me as my older grandchildren.  I hope (my grandchild) will always remember this summer and the time we spent together reading."
