The number of cases of lyme disease reported to the Health Department has steadily increased since 2005. Lyme disease cases have been reported from every county in Vermont, although most cases occur in the southern and western regions of the state.

Stacy Wein, of the Copley Health Sciences Library, has put together a comprehensive display with hand outs and resources for more information.
Stop by the Lanpher Library to learn from this display and to  get more information about lyme disease.

Check out the  Copley Health Sciences Library for any medical information.  Stacy Wein, the Librarian there, has access to thousands of databases that can give updated medical information for pretty much anything that you'd want to learn more about.  You can call her and she will even print out and mail the information to you too.   (802) 888-8347  or click to link to their website:

Accessible Parking Update!

7/18/2016

The Church Street Entrance is now back open!!!

Thank you for bearing with this week while our Church St. entrance has been unavailable due to the beginning of our Handicapped Accessible Project!
Story Time on Wednesday was easily planned. I just created a space where the children could look out the window from the Children's Room...and the construction vehicles digging the sidewalk took care of the rest.
We are closed on Thursdays, so I was pleasantly surprised this morning when I arrived and the work was just about completed!
Step 1 is done!
Coming Soon:  A new door with automatic opener!
A new back door!  A ribbon cutting ceremony when it is all done!

Accessible Parking Project!!!

A few years ago, it was brought to our attention that our Library was accessible....sort of.
Well, as the photos below will indicate, it's true.  We have several barriers to getting through our doors.
Not for much longer!
Thanks to a Building Community Grant from the VT. Department of Buildings and General Services and the Taxpayers of Hyde Park, we're widening our welcome mat to all members of our Community!
Starting Monday, July 18th, construction begins!!  We're getting a new door with an automatic opener, a cement walkway and a parking space that will have no curb and will be designated ADA Accessible!
Our Church Street Entrance will not be able to be used for a while, so please use the front door on Main St.  If you are unable to use stairs, we'll have the back door available for those patrons who need it!

Tuesday, July 12t, 6:30 p.m.
Jing Liu, Author/Creator of Foundations of Chinese Civilization Graphic Novel Series, will be at the Lanpher Library to talk about his books, and introduce us to a new way to explore  and understand the vast history of China!

Jing first visited the Lanpher Library via Skype in 2013, when the Summer Reading Program theme was "Dig Into Reading".  Participants did a virtual 'dig' to Beijing where it was 2:00 p.m. in Hyde Park...but it was 2:00 a.m. in Beijing!

We are honored to have him visit the Lanpher Library in person, at a 'decent' hour for all of us!  We hope you will join us for what will be a memorable, and informative author visit!

The Vermont Library Association is proudly sponsoring the PASSPORT TO VERMONT LIBRARIES program!

Pick up a passport at the Lanpher Memorial Library (or any of the 115 participating Vermont Libraries) and begin visiting ANY Public, Academic, School, or State Library in Vermont...to get your passport stamped.

The program ends on September 1st.  Between September 1st and September 9th, stop by the Lanpher Library and show us how many stamps you have in your passport.  We'll give prizes in 2 categories:  Adult and Child to the people who have visited the most libraries.  In addition, those names will be sent to the Vermont Library Association where they will be entered to win an additional prize!

We're so excited this year to have a custom made passport stamp to celebrate our 100th Anniversary!!!

To learn more about Passport to Vermont Libraries, stop by and see us at the Lanpher Library, or give us a call:  802-888-4628 .  You can also visit the Vermont Library Association's website for a map of libraries and more information:  http://www.vermontlibraries.org/passport/

This library patron is already having a great time visiting Vermont Libraries and getting her passport stamped!
Some ideas for visiting Vermont Libraries!
BE SURE TO CHECK LIBRARY HOURS ON WEBSITES, OR BY PHONE BEFORE YOUR VISITS!!!
Lamoille County: Begin at the Stowe Free Library.  They're celebrating their 150th anniversary this year!!!  Head over the Mountain through Smuggler's Notch (RT 108).  Stop and walk around the rocks in one of the many pull off places in Smuggler's Notch.  Head down the Mountain and into Jeffersonville to the Varnum Memorial Library.  Enjoy their lovely, new porch and get lunch, or a creemee while you're in Jeffersonville.
Get onto Route 15 and head East to Johnson, about 9 miles away.  The Johnson Public Library is on Railroad St. in Johnson, and is a lively, warm Library!
From Johnson, continue East on RT 15 to the Village of Hyde Park and the Lanpher Memorial Library!  We'll be so happy to stamp your passport with the stamp that celebrates our 100th Anniversary!
From there, head back onto RT 15 East via. East Main St. and drive to the Village of Morrisville to the newly renovated Morristown Centennial Library.

Second Route:  Orleans County  (I recommend going on a Tuesday of a Thursday.  You won't regret it!)
From Hyde Park, Take Route 100 North all of the way to Derby Line, VT.  Visit the Haskell Free Memorial Library in Derby Line, VT.  This amazing building houses the Library and an Opera House AND is partly in Canada!  You can step over the black line within the building and be in 2 countries at the same time!
From the Haskell, get on RT 5 South and head to Derby, VT and the Dailey Memorial Library.
Make your way to Main Street in Newport, VT to the Goodrich Memorial Library.  This Library is on the National Historic Register and is located right next to Lake Memphremagog.  Spend some time exploring the nooks and crannies of the Goodrich...and then spend some time walking along the Lake.  Grab some lunch nearby...or an ice cream at Tim & Doug's or candy at the local candy store!
On a Thursday, head over to Troy on RT 105 West to visit the Rand Memorial Library on Railroad Street.  They're open until 3:00 on Thursdays.
From Troy, travel on RT 101 South to  RT 100 South to the town of Westfield.  The Hitchcock Memorial Library is NOT to be missed.  They're open only on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1:00-5:00.  You will be amazed by their unique Natural History Collection!  Before you leave Westfield, visit The Hitchcock's closest neighbor, Berry Creek Farm for a locally grown, organic snack from their farm stand.  You could also head down to Lowell and stop by Cajun's Snackbar to whet your appetite.
If it's a Tuesday, you might try to visit the Lowell Public Library further south on RT 100.  They are open on Tuesdays from 4:00-6:00.
Phew!!!!  That is a busy day!!!
