ON SATURDAY, DECEMBER 7TH AT 1:00 AT THE LANPHER LIBRARY, we will Celebrate the publishing of Spunky Lamoille Boys in Blue 1861-1865, edited by Deanna French and Tom Ledoux.

The book is a compilation of more than 200 letters from over 80 soldiers all from Lamoille County, all served in the Civil War.  Plus, family sketches documenting many of the multiple family members from the county who served.

ON DECEMBER 7TH AT 1:00, we will see Civil War reenactors read some of the letters and poems, listen to traditional music....and sample some of the food our boys in blue ate as part of their Thanksgiving Dinner on December 6, 1864...151 years and 1 day from the day of our program....gingersnaps, apples, doughnuts, coffee and tea...and try some hardtack too!!!

Books will be on sale for $20.  All proceeds benefit Lamoille Area Cancer Network.

NEW ART ON DISPLAY

Christine Davis of  Morrisville has acrylic paintings and painted porcelain on display at the library through December. Here is what Christine has to say:
"I grew up in East St. Johnsbury, Vermont on a small farm with two very talented parents.  My mother was an artist, and father was a farmer and carpenter.  My mother and I would take sketch pads and go for drives, stopping along the roadside to draw an interesting tree, sunset, wildflowers--anything really.  I learned to do leatherwork, ceramics, pen and ink cards, and china painting on porcelain china from my mother.
My husband Dean and I moved to Morrisville two years ago, where he the herdsman on a local dairy farm.  I have two adult children and two grandchildren.
I have been acrylic painting for the past ten years and have evolved from landscapes to painting animals in their habitat.  Because I love to garden, florals have been a fairly new endeavor.
I have a Basic Art Certificate from a two-year correspondence school and have taken varous courses including Art Therapy, Basic Drawing, and my favorite was Integrating Art into Curriculum from the Hood Museum in Hanover, NH.
Privately I've been commissioned to paint the inside of wooden bowls depicting scenery from an estate.... I was also asked to paint a 3 x 9 foot mural inside the guest house.  The mural contained three different scenes representing fall, winter and spring.
I've taught drawing classes and pastel chalk classes to children (age 8-12) and adults and enjoyed their enthusiasm and creativity.
My future goals are to help establish an artist's co-op in this area for craftspeople/artists to sell their Vermont mad wares and to also engage more children into the art world.  I've realized that over the years children are very interested in all forms of art - but especially drawing and painting.  They ask questions and then tell me what they do for art and it's a great experience for me!"
