The two kits, Watershed Model and Watershed Explorer, have been designed to give families the opportunity to explore our Lake Champlain watershed with hands-on activities using scientific tools and methods to conduct field studies. They are designed to be used with the Watershed Explorer Challenge booklet published by Watershed Alliance, UVM Extension and SUNY Plattsburgh program.
You can use the kit at any stream or river site, or at a local site (like the Gihon River, or the Lamoille,) that eventually flows to Lake Champlain.
KIT #1 Watershed Model focuses on watersheds and is designed to be used at home.
The kit includes maps, books, and tools to be used for different experiments like: using cooking oil and water to explore how water moves through a watershed.
KIT #2 Watershed Explorer is designed to be used in the field to gather water quality field assessments.
The kit includes all you need to search for aquatic macro invertebrates; do a chemical assessment to determine pH, temperature, dissolved oxygen, phosphorus, and nitrates; and information on how to be a citizen scientist.
These kits are designed for ages 5+ WITH AN ADULT
