A Summer Reading Story, by Amy Olsen
A man who uses the Lanpher Library told me that he and his wife care for their 6 and 3 year old grandchildren 3 days/week. His 6 year old grandchild set a summer reading goal to read a book to him every day. So, every day after lunch, the two of them would sit together and the grandchild would read to him. As the summer went on, he looked forward to their reading time. He noticed patterns in the grandchild's reading, helped with learning new words and saw improvements in the reading abilities. He said: "I worry sometimes that my younger grandchildren won't have as vivid memories of me as my older grandchildren. I hope (my grandchild) will always remember this summer and the time we spent together reading."
