Michael will bring his keyboard to demonstrate some of the discussion points as we explore interesting ways poets and lyricists build momentum, tension and resolution and why a writer chooses a particular word or order of words in a certain way to create a musical rhythm....
With examples from jazz, pop, classical music, and poets like Shakespeare, e.e. cummings and Samuel Coleridge this is sure to be an informative and enjoyable evening.
Michael Arnowitt is known for his beautiful and sensitve touch at the keyboard, for the clarity and elegance of his musical ideas and for his abilities to find new articulations and colors from the piano. His life and music is the subject of a documentary film, "Beyond 88 Keys" (2004). The documentary, filmed both in the U.S. and in Europe, has been broadcast twice on public television and has been shown at a variety of film festivals and venues.
