On Wednesday, March 11th from 6:00-7:30 p.m. at the Lanpher Library, we will discuss the book: Know Your Chances: Understanding Health Statistics, How to See Through the Hype in Medical, News Ads, and Public Service Announcements, by Steven Woloshin, Lisa Schwartz and H. Gilbert Welch.
Copies of the book are available at the Lanpher Memorial Library. This book discussion is FREE and open to the general public.
Health messages can be confusing and misleading. The goal of this book discussion is to provide some background information and tools on how to better understand just what those numbers in health messages mean and what questions to ask to see behind the hype to discover what the message is actually saying.
"The authors....are general internists at the Department of Veteran Affairs, White River Junction, VT and professors at Dartmouth Medical School. Woloshin and Welch are co-directors of the Center for Medicine and the Media at the Dartmouth Institute for Health Policy and Clinical Practice."
