If you and your child are ready to talk about racism and white privilege, picture books can be a springboard for greater understanding and conversations.
While most of the books below are specifically chosen to discuss racism and antiracism with young children, the Lanpher Library also has many books in our collection that do not focus directly on racism, but will still raise awareness and give children exposure to diversity and promote inclusion. Books with characters who are representative of racial diversity, but whose stories are relatable to the feelings, hopes, curiosities and experiences of all children are plentiful in the Lanpher Library as well.
We also have many picture book biographies about famous men and women of color, historical picture books, and more.
