The Winnie Belle Learned Fund was established in 2006 by Dr. Burnett Rawson in cooperation with the Vermont Community Foundation in honor of Winnie Belle Learned, a Vermonter, educator and his benefactress. The goal for the FUnd is to help public libraries of Vermont foster literacy, love of learning, critical analysis and intellectual exploration in their communities, among children of all ages and their families.
The Lanpher Library has received a grant for $1000 from the Vermont Public Library Foundation Winnie Belle Learned Fund. The library will use the funding to purchase the Vermont Center for the Book, Mother Goose Program's "What's the Big Idea?" Librarian Kit to connect math and science ideas with the books and programs we already have in the library. In addition, several new books with math and science themes will be added to the library's collection. To extend the learning beyond the library, the grant includes "What's the Big Idea?" Family Kits for families and child care providers to borrow and use with children at home.
